Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth Sensitivity (Dentine Sensitivity)

It is defined as a short-term sharp pain (dentin) sensitivity that develops against external stimuli (thermal or tactile) in the dentin tissue that opens to the oral environment with the loss of the enamel or cementum, which is the outer layer of the tooth.

Tooth sensitivity may occur due to reasons such as exposure of the root due to gingival recession, gingival diseases, excessive or incomplete tooth brushing and incompatible restorations.

Tooth Sensitivity Treatment

First, a careful examination should be made and possible causes should be evaluated. Treatment should be carried out in stages and the most conservative step should be tried first.

First, desensitizing pastes and mouthwashes should be recommended. If the sensitivity has not disappeared, non-invasive treatments such as fluorides, ionophoresis, oxalates, laser and dentin bonding applications applied by the physician are performed in the clinic.

Finally, if the sensitivity continues, restoration of the tooth may be considered.
